Ireland's abortion referendum

Image 1. Click to open in original size.

"The Republic of Ireland currently has a near total ban on abortion. Terminations are not permitted in cases of rape or incest, or when there is a foetal abnormality and thousands of women travel abroad for a termination every year.

The Irish government has confirmed that the country's referendum on abortion will be held on Friday 25 May. Voters will decide if they want to make changes to Ireland's strict abortion laws, upheld by the Eighth Amendment of the Irish constitution. It followed the passing of the bill to hold the referendum in the Seanad (Irish Senate). Forty senators voted in favour of the bill with ten voting against."

- BBC News, 28th March 2018.

If you were voting would you be voting for or against the new bill?

I'm not sure of the correct English but I would vote so that women have the right to decide over their own bodies

I think it’s about time that the law is lifted. I’m wonder if the loss of importance of Catholicism in politics has anything to do with this.
