This fire has now burnt over 80,000 acres. My home in Shasta Lake is still under mandatory evacuations and so far the fire has not reached my home. The smoke is terrible and is effecting much of Northern California. This fire is being said to have been caused by a vehicle malfunction.
This summer seems to be a global forest fire season. Swedish fires has burned for months now. Firebombing planes and helicopters have come to help from all over Europe. We have had almost no rain since the beginning of May. I have mowed the lawn twice this year. A couple of weeks ago 25,000 hectares had burned, but that pail in comparison to a storm called Gudrun in 2005. It destroyed 250,000 hectares.
The Carr fire has burned over 103,722 acres and is 23% contained.
Six people have been killed in the fire and 818 homes have burned.
I was able to return to my home in Shasta Lake today. I am very grateful that my home was not effected by the fire. I can see ash and chucks from burnt embers all over the ground but thankfully nothing caught fire. The air quality in Shasta Lake is significantly worse than in Redding. I am hoping the we get some rain.
This mornings update is that 110,154 acres have burned and 884 homes have been lost. Many more other structures have been lost but I haven't found a count on other structures. The fire is at 27% containment.
Two firefighters and four civilian's have died. However, 19 people are currently still missing.
