The Russian satellite Sputnik launched into space, becoming the first man-made object to ever leave the Earth's atmosphere.

The achievement sent shockwaves through the United States and marked the start of a "space race" between the two countries.

#1: I first read “8 km/h” and thought it was so slow. 8 km/s is very fast. #0: There’s been a lot of conspiracy theories around the US landing on the moon. I wonder if they ever thought that Sputnik was “fake news”.

#2 I had a quick search and there was nothing that came up about any conspiracy as such. Guess it would have been weird to film a satellite in front of a green screen Laughing out loud

#4: No, not in general. I'm probably easier than most to fool. #5: That doesn't stop a lot of people from thinking the moon landing was a big hoax.
